Jews and Christians that come together behind unquestioning support for the state of Israel have a tenuous relationship. When they have a conversation, it is clear that they are living in completely different worlds. The reality is that many evangelical Christians support Israel for reasons that could be seen as anti-Semitic and Jewish acceptance of that political and financial support is more about politics than inter-faith friendship and understanding.
You don't get rid of racism by not talking about it just like you don't get rid of cancer by not talking about it. While the fact that we still need black history month is ridiculous, BHM is necessary because black history is largely invisible from the mainstream historical narrative. Freeman makes a good point but his idea that we could just act as if racism does not matter in our personal interactions and that would minimize the marginalization and violent reality that systematic racism manifests in the lives of people of color is misguided. If only.
